In the language of flowers, sunflowers represent adoration and loyalty. Maybe I am overly sentimental (okay, so I am TOTALLY overly sentimental), but I think this flower is the perfect symbol of Karissa and Brandon’s love. These two adore each other, and you cannot help but feel their fierce joy for life, the Lord, and each other when you are near them.
Karissa and Brandon met through mutual friends at church. They ended up talking and exchanging phone numbers and as Karissa put it, “things just took off from there!” Before their first date, Brandon learned that Karissa isn’t overly fond of bouquets, so he brought her a single yellow sunflower. Just one.
Three weeks after that first date Brandon proposed. And seven months later that first romantic gesture came full circle as Karissa walked down the aisle toward her groom, with just a single sunflower in her bridal bouquet! The day was a dream come true for both of them.
The day featured many special touches and thoughtful features. Karissa had her dress customized, adding the lacey details and train on the back, and then made a bracelet for her flower girl out of extra beading she had from her dress. Her something old was a pearl bracelet that her Grandma Sybesma was given back in the 1940’s, and her something borrowed was pearl earrings from her mother.
Jonathan and I have a tendency to get swept up in the joy of each wedding day, but something about this couple and this celebration just hit us really hard emotionally. (I blame pregnancy hormones, coupled with the fact that these two are just that awesome.) We both choked up when Karissa and Brandon shared pre-wedding prayer behind a door partition. Then I started tearing up when Karissa walked down the aisle to “When You Wish Upon a Star” – a song Jonathan and I used in our own wedding ceremony – and then Jonathan and I both full on cried during the daddy daughter dance to “Butterfly Kisses”. Right after the song ended and Karissa stood up on tippy toes to give her daddy butterfly kisses, the DJ came up to me to let me know what the timeline looked like, and I had to act all nonchalant and professional with tears literally streaming down my face! (Did I mention I am pregnant? Don’t judge me!! Hehe..)
Anyhoo, I sincerely hope we were able to capture even a fraction of the joy and love and passion that was present at this picture-perfect wedding. Thank you for including us in your special day and may God bless your marriage! CONGRATS Karissa and Brandon!! <3 <3
